Sardar Sarovar Dam took 56 years to be built after its foundation stone was laid by Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1961.
The dam has been called the “lifeline of Gujarat” and is the highest embankment on an Indian river. It was originally commissioned in 2006 but the height was recently raised to 138.68 metres.
The dam has been made to benefit thousands of farmers and help fulfil people’s aspirations.
